High Level Progressive Summit in Paris: PES family united in reviving Europe
The leaders of the Party of European Socialists have continued with discussions on the future of the European Union after the ‘leave’ vote in the UK following earlier talks at a PES meeting on 29 June. The meeting took place today and was hosted by the President of France, François Hollande, at the Château de la Celle Saint Cloud, in the outskirts of Paris. At the beginning of the meeting, France’s President delivered a speech on behalf of the PES family in which he called for solidarity with the Italian people after the earthquake in Central Italy.

PES European Ministers convinced that Europe needs new momentum after Brexit
European Ministers from the PES family met in Rome to discuss on priorities to be fixed at the European agenda in the aftermath of the British referendum. The meeting began with ministers signing a book of remembrance for the victims of the attack in Nice last night. Progressive ministers of European Affairs expressed their condolences to the families of the victims and their solidarity with the citizens of Nice and the people of France.

The future of Europe after the Brexit referendum result and the long term prospects of the European Socialists and Democrats were the two main subjects for discussion at an informal dinner in Paris bringing together leaders from the Party of European Socialists (PES). The participants agreed that the European Socialists and Democrats should take responsibility and lead the European agenda in this challenging and uncertain period.

European Progressives expressed their will to bring Europe back on the track of growth and reforms, ensure the future of the European project and show unity and solidarity in solving the refugee crisis. These were the main messages from the meeting of European Socialist and Democrat heads of state and government, hosted by President François Hollande at the Palais de l’Elysée on 12th of March 2016.

PES President rejects idea of excluding any country from Schengen
In light of the ongoing refugee crisis and ahead of the meeting of Greek political leaders in Athens today, PES President Sergei Stanishev reiterated his call for unity and solidarity:
“This refugee crisis is one of the worst in recent memory. As social-democrats and as Europeans we must live up to our values and our obligations. We have an obligation of protection, of solidarity, and of sound management of our borders.
