PES horrified by far-right surge in Italy
The Party of European Socialists denounces the emboldening of the far-right in Italy, as shown by the Lega’s defamation case against MEP Cécile Kyenge and by the aggression to MEP Eleonora Forenza and her assistant Antonio Perillo, who was hospitalized as a result.

Prime ministers from the Party of European Socialists once again call for European solidarity and joined efforts on the topic of migration. At the PES preparation meeting for the informal summit in Salzburg today, the progressive leaders expressed their concern about the latest actions from the populist and far right coalitions and governments in Europe, who are trying to shift the debate back to false solutions.
PES Europe Ministers caution Poland to abide by the rule of law
Socialist European Affairs Ministers expressed their strong concern about the complete lack of progress of the Polish government to conform to the rule of law, just one week after the vote in the European Parliament to activate article 7 (1) for Hungary. The Ministers met in Brussels today, where they also exchanged views on migration on the eve of the informal leaders’ meeting.
Building our campaign to win the next EU election
The PES Campaign Academy that will train activists to campaign for European social democracy in the next EU election was launched in Brussels today. 40 activists from across Europe will learn campaigning techniques and strategies to campaign around the PES common candidate and the PES manifesto, under the coordination of PES Deputy Secretary General Marije Laffeber.

The Party of European Socialists welcomes the vote in the European Parliament today which saw MEPs voting to trigger Article 7 (1) of the EU Treaty with 448 votes in favour and 197 against. The procedure is used in cases of serious breach of the values on which the Union is founded and could see Hungary’s voting rights in the Council suspended.
PES: Time for the EPP to choose, pro-Orbán or pro-European
The Party of European Socialists fully supports the efforts of the European Parliament to safeguard the democratic basis on which the European Union is founded by calling for triggering article 7 (1) of the EU Treaty against the Hungarian government.
