Energy Union on track
Today, Maros Sefcovic, Commission Vice-President for Energy Union, who comes from the Party of European Socialists, presented the European Commission’s first State of the Energy Union. This report looks at progress made in the implementation of the Energy Union strategy that was published by Commission Vice-President Sefcovic in February this year.

European socialist and democrat leaders agree climate declaration
At a meeting in Paris, leaders of European socialist and democrat parties met and agreed on a declaration calling for a strong agreement at the upcoming global climate change summit – COP21. The leaders gathered in Paris to show their support for a strong, binding agreement, and for the French Parti Socialiste whose government will host COP21 from 30 November to 11 December.

PES leaders joined by MEPs, Trade Unions and NGOs to address environmental issues
The Party of European Socialists (PES) today held a meeting of its Environment and Climate Change Network. The network brings together representatives of the PES’ member parties, Members of the European Parliament, trade unions and civil society to develop and promote progressive environmental and climate change policies. Speakers at the meeting included Aurore Maillet, member of cabinet of Karmenu Vella, Commissioner for the Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, and Artur Runge-Metzger, Director of Directorate International & Climate Strategy in the European Commission’s DG Climate Action, and MEP Jo Leinen to discuss the state of play of the Commission’s proposals for a circular economy and the COP21 process.

PES members discuss sustainable development goals
PES members gathered yesterday in London for a meeting to discuss the sustainable development goals.
“2015 will be a crucial year for development”, said Mary Creagh, Labour MP and Shadow Minister for Development. “As progressive parties, it’s important to exchange views and establish priorities. We need to display ambition and resolve to create a more equal global society”.
