PES: Dangerous Human rights violation in Malaysia
The Party of European Socialists strongly condemns the detention of Howard Lee and other members of the opposition in Malaysia. Lee, who is president of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), is a representative in the State Legislative Assembly in the country and such an arrest is openly antidemocratic.
PES deeply concerned about detention of HDP leaders Demirtas, Yuksekdag and other opposition MPs
The PES is profoundly concerned about the detention of the leaders of our associated member party HDP, Selahattin Demirtas and Figen Yüksekdag and a dozen other opposition MPs in Turkey.
The arrests of the legally elected members of parliament, representatives of the Turkish people happens just a few days after a PES delegation led by its President Sergei Stanishev met Demirtas in Diyarbakir.
Stanishev in Turkey, denounces crackdown on opposition, media and judiciary
A PES delegation led by President Sergei Stanishev is in Turkey meeting the leaders of PES associate member parties CHP, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, and HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş and various democratic organisations. The delegation visited both Diyarbakir and Ankara to learn first-hand about the situation on human rights, democracy and rule of law as a consequences of recent policies conducted by the government.

Global Progress 2016: Progressive family of Socialists to debate prosperity, diversity, innovation and digital democracy
Leaders of the Party of European Socialists are in Montreal, Canada, to take part in the ‘Global Progress 2016’ conference. The event, which is being hosted by Canada2020 in partnership with the Center for American Progress and Policy Network, brings together over 200 representatives from 20 countries. During the debates, participants will be exploring the prospects for a socially and economically progressive international community. Welfare, diversity, innovation and digital democracy will be among the issues to be discussed.
