PES kick off work for a more sustainable, social and democratic Economic and Monetary Union
High Level representatives of the Party of European Socialists met today in Brussels with Pierre Moscovici, Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs, to discuss the deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU). This is the start of a series of three meetings. A report will be presented in March 2016.
PES Finance Ministers call for the Economic and Monetary Union to be a platform for solidarity
The Party of European Socialists Finance Ministers met today in Brussels prior to the ECOFIN Council. The Ministers discussed the recent Commission communication on deepening the Economic and Monetary Union, which integrates several PES proposals but still has room for improvement in particular when addressing democratic legitimacy and the social dimension. They also had the chance to exchange on the December Climate Change Conference in Paris and expressed their support to a solid financing framework to support its goals.
Capital Markets Union must boost investment
Progressive Finance Ministers agree priority is investment and consumer protection
The Finance Ministers of the Party of European Socialists (PES) met today in Luxembourg ahead of the ECOFIN Council and adopted a paper outlining their common position on the development of the Capital Markets Union (CMU). The CMU is an initiative aimed at creating deeper and more integrated market of banks and other capital raising instruments across the EU, in order to boost investment in the economy and especially to Small and Medium Enterprises. This PES paper comes after the European Commission’s communication on the Action Plan on ‘Building a Capital Markets Union’ of Wednesday 30 September.
Reaction to the outcome of the Greek referendum
Sergei Stanishev, President of the Party of European Socialists said: ‘Greece has voted, and it is now high time to bring an end to this crisis. Greek people have suffered terribly throughout the crisis and in particular in the last week: for their sake, and for the future of Europe, all parties must sit together so that stability can be returned to Greece.
