PES Finance Ministers determined to keep Greece in the Eurozone and end austerity
PES Ministers meet prior to ECOFIN meeting
The Finance Ministers of the Party of European Socialists discussed the crucial negotiations on Greece and stated that Greece has to stay in the Eurozone. They also welcomed the agreement reached on the European Fund for Strategic Investment and called for its swift implementation. The EFSI was something long pushed for by the Party of European Socialists. That, together with the European Commission’s plan to create an integrated capital market in Europe and use the financial sector to gain resources to invest in SMEs and the real economy, was discussed by Finance Ministers of the Party of European Socialists today in Luxembourg. They were meeting prior to the ECOFIN Council to coordinate on EU financial and economic issues.
Greece must remain at the heart of EU
In light of today’s crucial Eurogroup meeting that will discuss the critical situation in Greece, PES President Sergei Stanishev stated: “There is absolutely no questions that the future of Greece must be at the heart of the EU, in the Eurozone. This is clear and should be the common red line that all parties involved agree on.”
PES Ministers agree on a common strategy to strengthen the Economic and Monetary Union
The European Affairs Ministers of the Party of European Socialists (PES) met today at the PES Headquarters in Brussels to prepare for the General Affairs Council meeting of 19 May 2015. The Ministers had the chance to discuss measures for strengthening the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) in light of the report to be presented in June by the Four Institutions Presidents, namely the President of the European Commission, the President of the European Council, the President of the Eurogroup, and the President of the European Central Bank on the same topic. The Ministers highlighted the need to deepen the integration of the Economic and Monetary Union, in particular by strengthening its social dimension, developing better coordination of fiscal policies, and reinforcing the existing banking union.
PES Finance Ministers call for a European Investment Plan that delivers growth and jobs
The Finance Ministers of the Party of European Socialists met today at the PES Headquarters in Brussels to coordinate their position ahead of the ECOFIN Council meeting. The Ministers discussed the progress on the negotiation on the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI) and focused on the key issues currently being debated between the European Institutions.
Finance Ministers agree on need for more tax transparency
The Finance Ministers of the Party of European Socialists (PES) met today in Riga in preparation for the Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) Council meeting. During the meeting the Ministers agreed on the need for more tax transparency, the need for the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI) to be democratically agreed, and the need for a Capital Markets Union.
