PES will be “unrelenting” in ensuring Juncker Commission takes a more progressive path
The Party of European Socialists today welcomed the vote in the European Parliament on the new European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker. This historic vote by MEPs means that for the first time ever the head of the Executive branch of the European Union is appointed taking into account the European elections.
Progressive thinkers reflect on the European elections 2014
On 4 June 2014, in the aftermath of the European elections, the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS) gathered progressive thinkers and politicians from all over Europe for a day of reflection in Brussels. Deputy Secretary General Marije Laffeber presented the Europe wide campaign the Party of European Socialists (PES) ran together with its member parties and the main challenges ahead. ‘Our central focus will remain on jobs, jobs, jobs, growth and on democracy. The PES and FEPS will soon launch the first Europe wide Social Democratic training Academy in which these themes will be at the core’, Laffeber stated.
Schulz tells voters that he will deliver a fairer Europe
In the last televised Presidential debate, one week before voting starts across Europe, Martin Schulz tonight pledged to build a fairer Europe. Schulz echoed the anger of voters as he spoke in Brussels about his frustrations with the conservative policy decisions of the past five years.
