Progressive women declare renewed support for women refugees
We must be conscious of the different needs of women and men in our approach to welcoming asylum seekers to Europe. This was the overarching message of the women’s organisation of the Party of European Socialists, in a declaration on women refugees, agreed at a meeting of its executive on 12 February. The declaration focuses on three aspects of women asylum seekers’ experiences. Firstly, the right of asylum; secondly the right to a safe and secure arrival and thirdly the need for the inclusive welcome of women.
PES women calls for action against violence
The Party of European Socialists has today united women and men across Europe on the annual International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. With a shocking seven women a day still dying from male domestic violence, there is much still to be done to address this grave problem. Women and men from member parties, activists and members from across Europe have formed shapes of white ribbons – the international symbol of the day.

PES Women President Zita Gurmai addresses YES Summer Camp in Santa Cruz, Portugal
The Young European Socialists (YES) invited Zita Gurmai to their summer camp where she provided a comprehensive political overview of this “very trying” year, while outlining PES Women priorities for the next five years.
In her speech the politician expressed her gratitude towards the young and energetic YES team, whose job is quintessential in building a progressive future full of optimism, openness, and equality.
PES Women President Zita Gurmai reflects on current state of Women’s issues in Korcula School
PES Women President, Zita Gurmai addressed the Korcula School 2015 in an introductory statement on August 29th. In her speech, Ms Gurmai highlighted the importance of continued emancipation and genuine efforts in order to empower women and achieve greater gender equality.
