PES Women President: “For a more inclusive and gender-sensitive Europe”
“While Europe has never been more at the center of the debates, while European citizens understand the importance of the decisions taken at European level, they also feel very much excluded from this debate. We are in desperate need of a more inclusive European democracy”, said Dr. Zita Gurmai MEP and PES Women President in Rome, during the conference on “European Democracy” organized by the S&D Group in the European Parliament.

For International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (VAW) on 25 November 2013, PES Women President Zita Gurmai recalls that it is crucial to prioritise the fight against VAW in view of the upcoming European elections.
The PES, as the Party for Women, gives full priority to this issue, which remains one of the most widespread violations of women’s rights within the European Union today. In Europe, 7 women die every day from male domestic violence.
PES at Korcula school to debate gender policies in South Eastern Europe
First organised in 2012, the Korcula school in Croatia is becoming a tradition. Organiser Dasa Silovic brought together over 40 participants for the 2013 edition currently taking place in the beautiful island of Korcula, birthplace of Marco Polo.
The 2013 Korcula school focuses on lessons, experiences and solutions to help shape life-work policies and practices in South Eastern Europe.

The PES Women Annual Conference, entitled “Women up! Against the Crisis”, took place today 21 June in Sofia, Bulgaria. This major event welcomed high-profile speakers from all over Europe to debate the consequences and solutions to the devastating effect of the crisis on women. The Conference was also the occasion to launch the new PES Women Campaign on closing the Gender Pay Gap: “Equal Pay, it’s about time!”.
PES Women Annual Conference hears of damage caused by young women’s unemployment
Call for Green economy jobs for women and better maternity coverage Under the slogan “Combating young women’s unemployment”, PES Women organized today its annual conference at the PS Belgium Headquarters, in Brussels. The aim of the event was to look at the specific causes of young women’s unemployment and discuss solutions such as gender budgeting, equal access to green jobs, and reconciliation of private and professional life. Over a hundred participants attended the conference.
