PES Women welcomes Ouafa Hajji as new President of Socialist International Women
The Party of European Socialists (PES) Women congratulates Ouafa Hajji (Socialist Union of Popular Forces, Morocco) on her appointment as President of the Socialist International Women (SIW). The election took place on August 27 at the 20th SIW Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. PES Women also sends its warm congratulations to Marije Laffeber(Labour Party, Netherlands), who will be the new Secretary General of the organization.
PES Women welcomes Danish Presidency gender equality priorities to tackle youth unemployment
On 23rd March PES Women held its yearly statutory meeting in Copenhagen.
In presence of Danish Minister for Gender Equality Manu Sareen and Spokesperson on Gender Equality Rasmus Langhoff MP, PES Women welcomed the Danish EU Presidency priorities to tackle gender inequality.
PES Women and Zijkant Sp.A mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25th November
Zij Kant, the Women’s organisation of Flemish socialists Sp.A and PES Women today marked International day for the elimination of violence against women. The event took place during the PES Convention and was entitled the ‘Ugly Face of Abuse’.
PES Women President calls Commissioner Reding’s approach to the 15th anniversary to Beijing Platform a ‘missed opportunity’
At a meeting in New York with Commissioner Viviane Reding (responsible for gender equality and women’s rights), Party of European Socialists (PES) Women’s President, Zita Gurmai, called the proposed content of the “European Women’s Right Charter” in the EC declaration on the Beijing Platform for Action (BPA) a missed opportunity.
Ms. Reding announced the Commission’s intention to present an EC Declaration on the Beijing Platform for Action referring to the European Women’s Rights Charter.
PES Women President calls for European Women’s Rights Charter
Yesterday at the PES Women Annual Conference Zita Gurmai MEP was unanimously re-elected President of PES Women. In her opening remarks, she called upon European Commission President Barroso to deliver on his promise to put in place a European Women’s Rights Charter that will enforce gender equality for the 21st century.
