Korcula School
CEE Network for Gender Equality is organizing its fourth Korčula School for Gender Equality, 29-30 August 2015 in Korčula, Croatia. This year’s topic of the School is “Transformative Politics – Women in Politics” focusing on the role of women and women’s forums in political parties on the center left.
Zita Gurmai, PES Women President, and Marije Laffeber, PES Deputy Secretary General, will participate in the debates.
Gender Equality closer as Noichl scores win for women
The European Parliament has called for more action from the Europe on gender equality. In its Plenary in Strasbourg the parliament voted for a report from Socialist and Democrat group MEP Maria Noichl (Germany) on the Commission strategy for Strategy for Gender Equality. From activists to Prime Ministers, members of the Party of European Socialists have been fighting for gender equality for years and deem it appropriate and necessary that the European Commission legislates to make sure that equality between women and men becomes reality. The strategy was at risk after the European Peoples Party tried to weaken the European stance on it, but MEP Noichl’s report defeated the EPP proposal.
#Power2Women: Not Words but Deeds
Progressive parties and organizations from all over the world came together on 22-23 May in Rotterdam to participate to the Conference “Gender Equality and Decent Work”. The event was organized by the Progressive Alliance, in cooperation with the PvdA (Labour Party, Netherlands) and the Party of European Socialists putting forward a concrete action plan on gender equality as well as combining debates with on the ground visits on the issue.
PES Gender Equality Ministers call for equal sexual & reproductive rights for all women
The Gender Equality Ministers and State Secretaries of the Party of European Socialists (PES) met today in New York on the occasion of the 59th UN Commission on the Status of Women to pave the way for further and strengthened cooperation and coordination and keep gender equality high on the agenda in Europe and across the world.
