PES Defence Ministers confirm their solidarity with France
PES Defence ministers gathered this morning ahead of the meeting of EU Ministers of Defence taking place today. At the meeting, Ministers discussed the application of the mutual defence clause (article 42,7) of the Treaty of the European Union. They also talked about the European Defence Action Plan, capacity building and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) operations.
Europe Ministers unite against terrorism
Solidarity and defiance were the key words when Europe Ministers from member parties of the Party of European Socialists met ahead of the meeting of the General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels. In light of the horrific attacks in Paris They discussed ways to better cooperate on issues of security and terrorism, defending security as well as our values. They adopted two declarations, Against terrorism and in support of the Fundamental Rights Initiative.
PES condemns attacks in Paris, calls for more Europe
The Party of European Socialists condemned the terror attacks in Paris in a statement yesterday and canceled its regular Activist forum in Madrid. The participants at the forum gathered downtown Madrid together with the PES president Sergei Stanishev and expressed their solidarity with the people of France, holding candles and a sign NOUS SOMME UNIS.

“Again, a night of terror in Paris, leaving the people of France in suffering and mourning, and the world in shock. The loss of loved ones we will face with grief and prayers. Unprecedented terror we will face with unprecedented determination to stand together and uphold our values and principles. My thoughts are with the families of the victims and with President Hollande and all the French people who for the second time this year have to face such a tragedy. Pittella and Stanishev call for Lebanese society to stand together against intolerance and violence
The President of the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament, Gianni Pittella, and the President of Party of European Socialists, Sergei Stanishev, today condemned the two suicide bomb attacks which took place late last night in Beirut, calling for the Lebanese society to stand together and fight back against fundamentalism and religious hatred.
PES Family: Restarting the dialogue with Africa is important
Prime ministers and party leaders from the PES family gathered together just a few hours before the Valletta summit on migration. “The PES welcomes the restart of the European dialogue with Africa, which is actually the key element of today’s summit in Malta”, President Stanishev said at the meeting.
