On Saturday 31 October key political actors from Europe and the Middle Eastern will take action for refugees, and the countries hosting them. Means of improving the situation will be discussed at a conference, debates, and during visits to refugee camps in Beirut, Lebanon.

Sergei Stanishev, PES President has arrived in Turkey to support PES member parties CHP and HDP ahead of the elections on 1 November. He is holding a series of meetings to discuss the upcoming elections. Yesterday, on 22 October, he met with Kemal Kilicdaroglu, Leader of CHP, and Selahattin Demirtas, Leader of the Kurdish party HDP.

Progressive ministers call for enhanced integration of EU migration and asylum policy
Implementation of decisions taken so far to improve management of migratory flows and increased support to refugees trying to escape war and terrorism in Syria were the main themes of discussion when progressive ministers met today. They were meeting to coordinate ahead of the EU General Affairs Council in Luxembourg and two days before the European Council.

PES expresses grave concern over the escalating situation in Israel and Palestine
This last week, tensions have been rising in Israel and Palestine. In just the last few days we have seen an Israeli couple was killed by Palestinians in the West Bank, riots and a number of stabbings, with multiple victims on both sides. Two rockets were fired into Israel from the Gaza Strip, and during border riots today five Palestinians were killed by the Israeli army. Tensions have been mounting to a concerning level, with incidents taking place on a daily basis.

PES commends decision to grant Nobel Peace Prize to Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet
Today the Nobel peace Prize was awarded to the quartet of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT), the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA), the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH) and the Tunisian Order of Lawyers.
