Escalation of violence in Turkey must stop immediately
Party of European Socialists President Sergei Stanishev reacted to the news of an escalation of violence in Turkey, including an arson attack on the headquarters of PES sister party Halkların Demokratik Partisi (HDP) in Ankara and vandalism by pro-government demonstrators on the newspaper Hurriyet.

Turkish attack on socialist youth ‘beggars belief’
Reacting to this morning’s news of a suicide attack on a socialist youth gathering in Suruc in Southern Turkey Sergei Stanishev, Party of European Socialists (PES) President said:
‘The fact that a group of socialist young people in Turkey have been massacred as they prepared to volunteer in Syria, is so abominable that it is beyond belief.’

PES congratulates negotiators on historic nuclear deal with Iran
After months of negotiations, the P5+1 countries (US, UK, France, Russia, China, Germany) and Iran agreed on a nuclear deal today.
‘In these challenging and dangerous times, we want to thank the negotiating partners for their political determination to identify new grounds for cooperation’ says PES President Sergei Stanishev. ‘After 12 years of insecurity about Iran’s nuclear programme, we managed to avert a worst case scenario. This opens a whole new chapter for dialogue, which is no less than historic.’
