PES President affirms commitment to fighting LGBTI discrimination in 2016
Eliminating discrimination against LGBT people in Europe was the principle concern of a meeting between the President of Rainbow Rose Aurélien Mazuy, the socialist LGBT network, and the President of the Party of European Socialists (PES), Sergei Stanishev.
FN defeated by citizens mobilization in French regional elections
The Party of European Socialists has welcomed the results of the French election, from which Front National emerged with no regions in their control.
Sergei Stanishev, PES President said ‘I congratulate French citizens who mobilised against the FN’s scare-mongering to resoundingly beat the Front National into third place. By turning out and voting, they showed that they value democracy, multiculturalism, and equality, and that France is stronger when it is open and pluralist.’
French PS takes steps to defend the Republic against the FN
The first round of the regional elections in France have concluded with worrying results for the French Republic, after the Front National came first among the parties in six of the 16 regions.

PES hopes to see free and fair elections in FYR Macedonia after new government agreed
Early on Friday morning the four major political parties in FYR Macedonia finally reached an agreement on composition of the new technical government. This will include new SDSM members in the run-up to the early parliamentary elections next April. The government composition was the main stumbling block to the implementation of the Pržino agreement. This sets new electoral rules which will be used for the early elections and opens the door for the Parliament to vote on the new government.
French, German and Italian European Affairs Ministers call for strong European coordination on refugees
European Affairs Ministers of the Party of European Socialists met today in Brussels to discuss proposals for addressing the crucial issue of refugees. At the meeting the French and German Ministers of State for European Affairs Harlem Desir and Michael Roth called for a strong and ambitious EU action.
