PES hopes to see free and fair elections in FYR Macedonia after new government agreed
Early on Friday morning the four major political parties in FYR Macedonia finally reached an agreement on composition of the new technical government. This will include new SDSM members in the run-up to the early parliamentary elections next April. The government composition was the main stumbling block to the implementation of the Pržino agreement. This sets new electoral rules which will be used for the early elections and opens the door for the Parliament to vote on the new government.

SOTEU promises big on refugee crisis – actions must follow
The President of the Party of European Socialists Sergei Stanishev reacted to the European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker’s State of the European Union speech.
“The State of the European Union address given by President Juncker today was a strong, European speech, from a committed European. At this difficult moment for the European Union, he reflected the European values which we all feel, of solidarity for refugees arriving at our shores.
European response to dire refugee crisis urgently needed
“At this moment, more people in the world are displaced by conflict than at any time since the Second World War. This is a human tragedy, with families leaving behind loved ones, jobs, and their life’s possessions to risk their lives, in the hope of reaching safety. They leave with hope, and yet every day brings news of people whose journeys end before they can reach safety. Many die on the approach to Europe –in the Mediterranean – yet others perish on European soil, during their journey across the continent.”
