The campaign to have voters decide who will be the next Commission President yesterday received very strong backing from the French President Francois Hollande. In an article in Le Monde, Hollande stated that: “On 25th May, your vote will determine who the next President of the European Commission will be”.

The Finance Ministers of the Party of European Socialists (PES) met today at the PES Headquarters. The Ministers welcomed the good signs of progress on the Financial Transaction Tax and strongly supported the introduction of a concrete timetable for its implementation.
Schulz hits the street again in Portugal
Martin Schulz again took his election campaign out onto the street with European voters today in Lisbon. In an intense programme of activities he visited a factory and two social projects in the Lisbon area. Schulz also held a joint press conference with Portuguese Socialist Party leader António José Seguro. Schulz closed his day of campaigning with a keynote dinner speech on economic governance to an audience of trade unionists entrepreneurs and academics in Porto.
