From the 20th to the 23rd of November 2014 the Party of European Socialists (PES) organised its first European Training academy together with the Social democratic Party of Vienna (SPÖ). PES Deputy Secretary General Marije Laffeber: “Providing intensive training and a platform for exchange for our party professionals and activists has been a truly enriching and fulfilling experience. The 52 participants were excellent and this motivates us to turn the PES Training Academy into an integrated part of our European political party”.

The Presidency of the Party of European Socialists (PES) agreed today to organise the next PES Congress in Budapest, Hungary. Meeting at the PES Headquarters in Brussels, the Presidency members decided that the presence of the PES family in Budapest will be crucial as a pillar of support for all the Hungarian citizens who fight for greater democracy and the respect of human rights in the country, including the PES member party MSZP.

PES joins over 100,000 Belgian citizens to protest against new conservative government

Over 100,000 Belgian citizens took to the streets today to protest against the new conservative government and its economic and labour reforms. The new government, which took office on 11 October, intends to extend the pension age, affect salaries and endanger public services. The Party of European Socialists, led by PES Deputy Secretary General Yonnec Polet, joined the demonstration in Brussels.

The PES Democracy and Society Network in cooperation with the Foundation for European Progressive Studies, the European Forum for Democracy and Solidarity and the Karl Renner Institute are jointly organising the two-day conference “Enhancing Democracy: Our Main Priority”, a high-level conference in Vienna, from 21 to 22 November 2014 to discuss the current situation, challenges and advancements relating to democracy and fundamental rights.
