Remembering Robin Cook (1946-2005)
PES President Sergei Stanishev stated: “Today marks 10 years ago that former PES President Robin Cook sadly passed away. Robin was president from 2001-2004 and he played an important role in moving the PES forward as European political party. I first got to work with him in the late ’90s. Robin was an extraordinary person and a brilliant debater — a true European whose ideas will stay close to us and whom we will always remember”.
“Time for unity, time for a deal” says PES President
Commenting on Sunday’s Eurozone Summit and meeting of the European Council on Greece, PES President Sergei Stanishev said:
“The submission by the Greek authorities of a plan that looks to be serious and credible is an extremely positive development that revives hope for a positive outcome. All parties must ensure that a fair deal is concluded rapidly. This is no time for self-interest, political games or short-sighted policies.
Time is running out but door remains open
Commenting on the situation in Greece Sergei Stanishev, PES President said:
“We are critically short on time. But doors must remain open to dialogue and negotiations. Nothing is more important in this key moment than an agreement on the Greek situation which would keep Greece in the euro, and protect the Greek people the dramatic consequences of leaving it. The Greek people have made enormous sacrifices during the last five years, it would be a real tragedy if these were made in vain.
