PES congratulates Albanian Socialist Party on parliamentary elections victory
The Party of European Socialists (PES) warmly welcomes the provisional outcome of the Albanian elections held on Sunday 23rd of June, which indicates a landslide victory of the Albanian Socialist Party (PSS), associate party of the PES.
However, the PES strongly condemns the violent incident that took place during the voting day in which an opposition activist was killed and a candidate was seriously injured.

New Bulgarian Government will be one with an irreproachable sense of integrity, responsibility and urgency, says Sergei Stanishev
The Party of European Socialists (PES) congratulates the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) for its central role in the formation of a new government in Bulgaria today (29 May). The Government will be headed by BSP nomineePlamen Oresharski. Mr. Oresharski and his cabinet were voted with 120 votes in favour. The BSP will be joined in Government by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) party.

On Thursday evening, at a special meeting at the PS headquarters in Brussels, the mayor of Charleroi was unanimously elected as successor to Interim President Thierry Giet.

Continuing an end of year visit to Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, the PES President, Sergei Stanishev today (18 December) held meetings in Prague with theCzech Member Party (CSSD).
Mr. Stanishev met with CSSD leader Bohuslav Sobotka and with the CSSD Presidential candidate Jiří Dienstbier. He congratulated Mr. Dienstbier for his strong Presidential campaign.

(25th November). Dragan Djilaswas elected as new leader of the Serbian Democratic Party (DS). Boris Tadić was appointed Honorary President.
